A small campaign that achieved big success in the capital for Smart Monkey

Small but mighty agency, Smart Monkey is on a roll. Fresh off the back of an award win at the UK Agency Awards, we’re now shortlisted at the UK Search Awards for best local SEO Campaign (Small) for our work with one of our long-standing professional services clients.

Our work with Perrys Accountants, an accountancy firm based in Kent and London, was something of a team challenge. After being told by their web design agency not to bother optimising for the capital because of fierce competition, we decided it was time to put our own skills to the test. And so we started operation ‘get London calling’.

After doing a company and competitor analysis, we agreed, with the Perrys team, to improve SEO foundations to create a technically clean website, which would make it easier for both potential customers to use, but also ensure Google could navigate it.

Our work included, working on the client’s local map pack rankings in London, focusing on improving the site’s organic SEO ranking in London, and conducting a Google EEAT audit. We also devised an extensive content strategy to consolidate old content, improve existing content, white also creating new content written specifically to target content working well for a competitor.

And our KPIs were nothing short of ambitious. We aimed to dominate the search space with search results for ‘accountant London’, and:

  • Increase monthly leads by 40%
  • gain top 3 local map pack ranking for ‘accountant London’
  • gain page 1 ranking for ‘accountant London’

Did we deliver? You bet! From zero visibility in the top 100 for any of their sector-related search terms in London, among other things, we:

  • increased leads by 151%
  • taken them to #4 on the local map (just on the cusp of hitting the stretch target)
  • achieved #3 ranking for their holy grail keyword ‘accountant London’

Although the client was hopeful, we exceeded even their expectations, and have further cemented our relationship with them.

What’s next for Smart Monkey?

Well, more awards, hopefully! As a small SEO agency based near the South coast, not far from Brighton – home to the largest SEO conference in the country – we know how big the industry is. So it’s down to us to stand out from the competition.

We’ve recently refocussed the business to really play into our strengths and experience, and as such, we now have a roster of B2B clients across professional services, the built environment and workplace services.

We’re also working on introducing new reporting metrics to showcase the impact of our work to clients, while constantly improving our ways of working to better service clients daily.

But this is just the start for us; we’ve got big plans to grow our team and onboard new clients over the next couple of years, and have an ambitious growth plan in place which will take us to the next level.

As well as two recent hires to help us meet these goals as we expand our expertise and offering to even better serve our clients, we have a new website in the works – however long overdue – which will showcase our expertise across our key offering; technical SEO, on-page SEO, digital PR, and PPC.
